Ars Europa alla 65ma Mostra di Venezia

The editorial team of Polisemantica, together with Ars Europa’s creative unit, has just returned from the 65th Venice International Film Festival.

In connection with the Euromediterranean Conference, Ars Europa presented a mini trailer of the docufictions currently in production.

The focus of our presentation was on the methods for creating docufictions tailored to new media… A video intended for the Internet must necessarily follow different syntactic and compositional rules than one made for television or cinema. Since the web is a space where various languages and genres converge, giving rise to new forms of communication perfectly suited for this medium, videos must also be produced according to the principle of contamination.

Contamination must go beyond the now-traditional blending of genres (such as educational and entertainment, which gives rise to “edutainment”) to also include languages.

Hence, our docufictions combine traditional camera footage with historical video excerpts and 3D animation, especially when recreating historical figures. The digitally reconstructed protagonist speaks in the first person, creating a much more emotionally engaging effect than traditional documentaries.

These documentaries—with 3D character inserts—represent a visual language particularly well-suited for teens and young adults, echoing the aesthetics of video games for PlayStation and PC. They blend education and entertainment into a true edutainment experience.

This is a straightforward way to communicate with younger generations using their own language—primarily visual and interactive, like that of video games.

So let’s not be contaminated by the web… Let’s be the ones to contaminate it. ;-))
